The Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (CCIH) , an autonomous academic center was established in 2016 at School of Health Sciences (SHS), Savitribai Phule Pune University in accordance with the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy 2014-2023 and National Health Policy 2017 of India. The Objectives of CCIH is to encourage the traditional holistic health system in policy analysis, advocacy and translation, high quality scientific research, teaching and training and collaborative consortia. The CCIH is actively undertaking constant, consistent, and continuous academic and research activities to attain its mission.
Recognizing the important role of CCIH, the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India awarded Center of Excellence status with a grant for a period of 3 years. The activities achieved by AYUSH-CoE under the umbrella of CCIH, include building up a collaborative research network of premium institutes from India and abroad to strengthen interdisciplinary research in AYUSH; capacity building and human resource development and development of strategies based on policy and analysis. Savitribai Phule Pune University has established Ramkumar Rathi Patanjali Yoga Chair (RRPYC) at CCIH, School of Health Sciences on 3rd October 2018. The objective of RRPYC is to promote scholarship and thought leadership, research, meta research, education and practice of Yoga. (Learn more)
The CCIH hosts an editorial office of the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (J-AIM). It is a platform for collaborative research for integrative medicine. The J-AIM is an internationally circulated open access official publication of the World Ayurveda Foundation (WAF) and Trans-Disciplinary University (TDU), Bengaluru, published by Elsevier, established in 2011. The CCIH-AYUSH-CoE team organised a Winter School for 30 participants from both traditional and modern sciences. The Winter School was a one-month residential (15th Nov. 2018 to 15th Dec. 2018) program funded by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and SPPU. Winter school was designed with a unique blend of Gurukul and University systems, followed by innovative pedagogy methods comprising group interaction, panel discussion lab visits, field visits, and fun and learn activity.
